Pride WA

about us

Welcome / Kaya Wandju Wandju

As a community, arts and cultural organisation, it is Pride WA’s mission to promote and encourage the community, culture and artistic expression of all people of diverse sexuality and gender living in Western Australia. We aim to provide a platform for celebrating that community, culture and talent as they continue to champion their rights and freedoms.

Our Mission

To encourage and promote the community and culture of Western Australia’s gender and sexually diverse people by supporting, advancing and educating the specific needs of all people of diverse sexuality and gender living in Western Australia.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be the leading community body, empowering and inspiring inclusivity for Western Australia’s gender and sexually-diverse community.

Our STory

Pride WA has been integral to the Western Australian community since 1989. We grew out of a community movement protesting laws that actively discriminated against members of our community and evolved to incorporate a festival and events calendar. The pride Community includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer (LGBTQIA+), other people of diverse sexuality and gender, and their supporters.

Following extensive research and consultation, Pride WA is now committed to providing a platform by which the Pride Community can showcase their talents and continue to champion their rights and freedoms. The strategic plan developed through this process aims to ensure that Pride WA continues to be a viable and sustainable organisation, committed to strong governance, well connected to its community and working in partnership with others.

We recognise that our collective strength lies in our diversity and willingness to embrace and respect the differences within our Pride community and the broader communities in which we live, work, love, and celebrate.
Pride WA’s mission and principal purpose are to encourage and promote community, culture and the arts in Western Australia by celebrating the community, unique talents and identities of our sexual and gender-diverse community.

Our public charitable objectives are:

  • Providing outreach and support for people of diverse sexuality and gender living in Western Australia;
  • To celebrate the diversity and cultural expression of the Pride Community;
  • To consequentially improve the self-esteem, health status and representations of the Pride Community;
  • To make visible the positive contribution the Pride Community makes to the wider Western Australian Community;
  • To conduct fundraising activities to ensure the furtherance of the aims and objectives of the Association;
  • Providing education and referral resources around diverse sexuality and gender; Raising awareness and driving meaningful change around the needs of people of diverse sexuality and gender living in Western Australia.

wa lgbtqIA+ cULTURE

Australia is a country with a largely open-minded population. Western Australia, especially, is welcoming to the LGBTQIA+ community, with festivals such as PrideFest attracting tourists from all over the world.

Perth offers big-city cultural attractions, bountiful nature, a relaxed lifestyle and far more things to do for visitors than we had ever anticipated. Modern Perth is sophisticated, cosmopolitan and welcome-to-all, with a vibrant nightlife scene filled with gay and mixed venues.

PrideFEST, Perth

What began as a community movement protesting discriminatory laws against the gay and lesbian community has since grown into PrideFest. This festival includes Perth Pride Fairday and the Perth Pride parade.
